As an integral part of the university we are committed to excellence in delivery of infrastructure that supports the national skills agenda and Wits’ strategic goals, namely:
•to increase the intake and throughput of quality graduates
•to increase the percentage of post graduate and research students, attracting the best
•to be a world-100 university, building on Wits’ unique South African urban identity
•to attract, inspire and retain quality academic and support staff.
Wits Capital Projects Program (CPP) was established in 2008 to direct a project portfolio exceeding R1billion by 2012. This investment represents a partnership commitment by the Department of Education, Wits and the private sector. The first fruit of this partnership, the extension and upgrade of the FNB Building, provides inter-alia five new contemporary auditoriums. Our project portfolio stretches across university campuses and faculties and includes student residences. Project roll-out is guided by Wits’ 2022 strategic goals and the long-term vision of a refreshed spatial development framework.
The program is managed by a directorate within the Property and Infrastructure Division of the University. It reports to the Capital Projects Steering Group established by the Vice Chancellor to coordinate and support project priorities, budgets and the fundraising effort of the Advancement division and Faculties.
Our core business is the management of project design and implementation to meet the needs of faculties and users. Aspiring to world-class project delivery, we draw on the best practice of the South African construction industry and global experience, and have assembled quality design and construction capability.
